Curamericas Global is seeking volunteer public health interns for the summer of 2019 to travel internationally to support programmatic activities in Guatemala and Kenya. We would greatly appreciate your support in circulating the attached information among students who are seeking to either fulfill an academic experience, practicum experience, and/or gain international work experience. We are currently accepting applications until March 15, 2019 for summer 2019.

We would be happy to meet with you via phone and give you more information about these internship experiences and/or provide you with references from previous international interns who may also be able to provide you with direct accounts of their experience with Curamericas in Guatemala and Kenya.

Compensation: Unpaid, practicum participants are responsible for funding their internship experience
Length of Engagement: Summer 2019 – minimum of 14 days, 40 hours per week (candidates who are
able to commit to longer than 14 days will be given priority)
Location: San Sebastian Coatán, Huehuetenango, Guatemala or Kisii, Kenya
Curamericas Global, a nonprofit, international health organization, is seeking a highly motivated and
enthusiastic graduate student to support either:
• The Project Director of Curamericas Guatemala as an International Intern in the rural highlands of
Guatemala. Chosen candidates will travel to Huehuetenango, Guatemala for a minimum of two
weeks to conduct capacity-building activities, research, and aid in program implementation, or...
• The Project Coordinator of the Kisii Konya Oroiboro Project (KIKOP) as an International Intern
in Kisii, Kenya. Chosen candidates will travel to Kisii, Kenya for a minimum of two weeks to
conduct capacity-building activities, research, and aid in program implementation.
• Program Implementation
o Assess and develop program implementation tools to increase project efficiency.
o Aid in the implementation of new projects, ensuring the development of all activity and reporting
tools, and training of staff on utilization of the same.
o Conduct needs assessment on project implementation.
o Investigate potential funding opportunities in-country, develop and submit proposals for funding.
o Support in all monitoring and evaluation efforts for programs in country.
• Capacity Building
o Develop trainings related to technical interventions and general professional development for incountry
o Conduct trainings and training follow-up related to technical interventions and general professional
development for in-country staff.
o Other general capacity building needs such as: training of in-country staff on Microsoft Word and
Excel, examining project implementation processes and identifying gaps (with action plans to
fulfill), aid staff in various reasonable training requests.
o Develop research proposals for formative and/or operational research projects.
o Develop research tools including questionnaires to be utilized in household surveys and focus
o Supervise the implementation of household questionnaires and focus groups.
o Collect data, enter data, conduct analysis, and report on findings.
• Other Responsibilities
o Development and submission of monthly blog to be posted on Curamericas website.
o Submission of work plan and time log.
o Other tasks and duties as assigned by Project Director or Project Coordinator.
? Pursuing graduate degree (or completion of) in international development, public health or related
? Proficiency in Spanish required for Guatemala location.
? Responsible, motivated and flexible person.
? Experience with field or extensive research preferred.
? Experience conducting trainings in a cross-cultural setting a plus.
? Experience with Microsoft Excel and Word.
? Strong writing skills preferred.
? Able to work in a team and independently.
? Experience in international setting; developing country-setting preferred.
? Enthusiastic attitude and willing to do whatever is needed to help the team.
