Position Summary: The Healthy Athletes Manager is responsible for the implementation and
management of the Healthy Athletes program and screening events taking place in Washington, the
collection and management of data from each Healthy Athletes screening, and providing programmatic
support for the Health Initiatives Department.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable in a role that requires cross-program and cross-department
event management, data management, and volunteer supervision. The candidate should have an
understanding of health disparities experienced by individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Supervisor: Director, Health Initiatives
Healthy Athletes Event Management (70%)
? Work closely with the Director of Competition and Senior Region Managers to identify Healthy
Athletes screening opportunities at state and regional competitions
? Solicit donations and purchase supplies and equipment for Healthy Athletes screenings
? Work closely with the Sports Administrative Coordinator to arrange event logistics such as
volunteer meals, facilities rentals, and volunteer lodging for each screening
? Complete Healthy Athlete Capacity Grants for each Healthy Athlete screening
? Communicate regularly with Clinical Directors via email and phone to coordinate Healthy
? Recruit, train, and supervise Healthy Athletes event volunteers with input from SOWA Clinical
? Assist with the development of a Follow-Up Care database for Healthy Athletes referrals
? Develop a recognition program for SOWA Clinical Directors to ensure retention and program
sustainability and conduct yearly evaluations of the Clinical Director program and experience
? Recruit and train new Clinical Directors as needed for each Healthy Athletes Discipline
Health Data Management (20%)
? Set up Healthy Athletes events in the Healthy Athletes Software (HAS) system two weeks prior
to each screening
? Work closely with SOI’s research team to collect and enter Healthy Athletes data
? Support Clinical Directors and volunteers with tablet data entry before and during screenings
? Produce monthly Healthy Communities data reports and quarterly Healthy Athletes data reports
? Assist with the production of SOWA’s yearly Health Report
Healthy Initiatives Department Support (10%)
? Work closely with the Director of Health Initiatives to ensure Healthy Athletes and Healthy
Communities are functioning cohesively in the state
? Assist with on-the-ground operations of health initiatives at competitions and events
? Share programmatic successes via social media and other communications tools
? Participate in the Health Initiatives Department efforts to meet Healthy Community recognition
criteria by 2020
? Bachelor’s degree, background in public health or disability preferred;
? Sound technical knowledge of health sector service delivery, including an understanding of the main
health systems challenges for people with intellectual disability;
? Strong communication, interpersonal and influencing skills, including a demonstrated ability to
build and maintain networks, provide advice and communicate effectively in English (both in
writing and verbally) on sensitive issues with professionally diverse range of stakeholders;
? Experience in health program planning and implementation, with a particular focus on
implementing multi-year projects through collaboration with a range of partners;
? Ability to think laterally, challenge accepted approaches, come up with innovative solutions and
implement improved program practices.
? A professional acumen to be able to meet deadlines and establish priorities;
? Proficiency in managing information systems and databases relevant to program development.
? Ability to work evenings and weekends to staff Healthy Athletes and Healthy Communities
events that often do not take place during regular work hours.
