The Kinesiology, Health and Nutrition Department at The University of Texas at San Antonio invites applications
for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Health Data Analytics with the ideal applicant having content knowledge
in community or public health research and practice. The Department in partnership with other academic units at
UTSA is committed to advancing public health by the collection, coordination, and analysis of large, complex
data sets and building predictive models leading to informed health policies and practices.
The University of Texas at San Antonio is situated in a vibrant and growing community, serving a diverse,

teaching, research, and community service, UTSA is rapidly moving toward classification as a doctoral/research
Responsibilities include teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses in database management, data
analysis, and research methods; conducting research in health data analytics and applied statistics in collaboration
with current faculty, pursuing external funding, participating in curriculum development, and performing
university and community related services.
Specific skills of a successful applicant include some or all of the following: (1) design data management
solutions for diseases or risk factor management, (2) conduct systems-science based health policy research
alongside key stakeholders, (3) experience using large databases to profile care processes and health outcomes, (4)
developing and testing technologies with public health applications, and/or (5) interpreting data and results in the
context of public health intervention design.
Required qualifications: 1) an earned doctorate in Biostatistics, Public Health or related field (ABD will be
considered with anticipated graduation by August 15, 2018); 2) ability to teach undergraduate and graduate
courses in data management, data analytics, and research methods with an emphasis on public health applications;
and 3) demonstration of a focused research agenda in public health data analytics.
Preferred qualifications include 1) Expertise in study design in public health research; 2) experience with
undergraduate and/or graduate student mentoring; 3) research experience in public health using cutting-edge
quantitative methods; 4) experience of conducting funded research; and 5) ability to conduct collaborative
research with current faculty.

materials. The review process begins October 15, 2017, and will continue until the position is filled. Applicants
who are selected for interviews must be able to show proof that they will be eligible and qualified to work in the
United States by the time of hire. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and background.
Summer employment is contingent on student demand and funding. The position will begin in the Fall 2018,
pending budget approval.
